Sub-Zero ice makers under a Players Club entertaining load

A refrigerant manifold with blue and red gauges standing on the floor, its hoses running up into the machine compartment of a cabinet.

Players Club sits west of A1A around the golf, far enough back from the dune that the salt arrives on the wind rather than continuously, and close enough that it still arrives. The houses are larger than the older beachside stock, the kitchens were designed later, and the appliance mix reflects that: paired columns, a second refrigerator in a butler’s pantry, drawers in the island, and very often a dedicated ice machine.

That mix is the reason the service pattern here looks different from the oceanfront.

The load is episodic, and that is the problem

A refrigerator in an ordinary house works at a fairly steady rate. A kitchen in Players Club spends most of the year doing very little and then, several times a season — and comprehensively in the week the championship is in town — does a great deal all at once. Doors open every ninety seconds for two days. The ice machine is asked for its full daily production three days running. A column that has been coasting is suddenly asked for its rated pull-down with a warm room around it.

Marginal components survive steady work and fail under episodic work. A condenser fan that has slowed, a door seal that has hardened, an evaporator fan with a worn bearing — none of them shows up on a quiet Tuesday in September, and all of them show up on the Friday you have forty people in the house. Which is why, in this neighbourhood specifically, the sensible time to have anything looked at is several weeks before you need it rather than the morning of.

Ice is the component that gets pushed hardest

A dedicated ice machine is the only appliance in these houses that can be asked for its full rated daily production three days running, and it is the one most often found short when it is. The failure is rarely dramatic. Output tapers, the bin stops keeping up, and because nobody weighs ice the change is noticed only when it matters.

The diagnosis follows the water path in order, because the symptoms overlap and the order is what separates them. Supply and shut-off first, then the fill valve and the volume delivered per cycle, then the freeze plate and the length of the harvest, then the bin thermostat or level sensing, and the drain last. A machine that fills short, a machine that freezes slowly and a machine that cannot release a slab all present as low production, and only the sequence tells you which one you have.

The other thing worth knowing is that a machine used episodically is not lightly used. Long idle periods with a wet interior are their own load, which is why a machine that runs hard for one week a season often needs more attention than one that runs steadily all year.

Salt still gets here

A mile and a half back from the dune is not shelter. It is attenuation. The oxide bloom that closes up a fin pack in two years on the oceanfront takes longer here, but it takes the same route and produces the same symptom: a cabinet that runs longer every summer without ever quite failing. Annual condenser attention is a reasonable baseline in Players Club, against twice a year on the beach side, and a house with an outdoor kitchen or a pool-deck unit should treat those exposed appliances by the beachside schedule regardless of where the house sits.

How we work here

We are independent and we work on Sub-Zero only, which means the person who takes the readings on your columns is the person who comes back with the part. The diagnostic is a flat fee, credited toward the repair when you approve the work, and you get a written estimate before a panel comes off. Sealed-system work is carried out by EPA Section 608 certified technicians, and parts are genuine OEM ordered against the serial plate of the specific cabinet — which matters in a kitchen with two or three of them side by side, because they are not always the same underneath.

If you have a season coming up, tell us when. It changes what we recommend doing now rather than later.

What it costs

What does a Sub-Zero refrigeration repair cost in Ponte Vedra Beach?

Most of this work lands between $240 and $2,340, parts and labour together, and the visit that decides which end of that you are at is a flat $80 credited to the repair once you approve it. The firm number is written down after the diagnosis, not guessed at over the phone.

The bands this page falls into, parts and labour together.
Work Typical range
Diagnostic visit $80 flat, credited to the repair
Evaporator or condenser fan motor $250–$580 parts and labour
Compressor or sealed-system repair $860–$2,340 parts and labour
Door gasket or seal replacement $240–$650 parts and labour
Defrost heater, thermostat or sensor $250–$640 parts and labour

Written estimate before anything is opened up. The invoice carries one number; a band is what can honestly be published before the cabinet is open. The full table is on the pricing page.

Recent visits around Sawgrass Players Club

4.8 out of 5 from 67 customer reviews. Each one below is a single visit, described by the person who paid for it.

  • Our beverage cabinet pulled down overnight and lost ground all day in the island. He measured the air coming off the vent, reopened a toe kick the joiners had closed up, and the run time dropped by half.

    Rhiannon M.2026-04-02

  • Labels were lifting at the corners and the racks felt dry to the hand. He showed me humidity readings taken over a settled cycle, replaced a door seal flattened along the bottom, and the cabinet holds moisture properly now.

    Wendell T.2026-02-05

  • The freezer column chimed an alarm every night at about the same hour. He watched a full defrost cycle, saw the drain backing up into the trough, cleared the ice plug and fitted a new drain heater clip.

Questions we get asked

Asked in Sawgrass Players Club

What does a Sub-Zero refrigeration repair cost in Ponte Vedra Beach?
Most of this work falls between $240 and $2,340, parts and labour together: evaporator or condenser fan motor runs $250–$580, compressor or sealed-system repair runs $860–$2,340, door gasket or seal replacement runs $240–$650 and defrost heater, thermostat or sensor runs $250–$640. Which band your cabinet is in is what the diagnostic settles, and the figure on the written estimate is the one you are asked to approve.
Is the $80 diagnostic charged on top of the repair?
No. The $80 covers the visit and the whole diagnostic sequence, and it comes off the repair the moment you approve the work. Decide against it and the diagnostic is all you have spent: the written findings are yours to take anywhere you like. 90 days on labour, 365 days on parts, and genuine OEM parts on every repair.
Why does the ice machine only fail when the house is full?
Because a marginal machine keeps up with two people and cannot keep up with twenty. Scale on the plate, a supply valve that is only partly opening or a drain that is slow all pass unnoticed at low demand, then show themselves as a bin that will not fill on the one weekend it matters.
Should anything be checked before a season of entertaining?
The things that fail under load rather than under age: the condenser, the ice machine's water path and the door seals on whatever gets opened forty times an evening. All three are cheap to look at and expensive to discover on a Friday night.
